Another notable Xbox franchise is making its way to PlayStation. While Halo hasn't made the jump yet, Gears of War is set to join titles like Forza Horizon 5 in crossing platforms. Gears of War: Reloaded, a remastered version of the original game from 2006, will be available on PS5, PC (via the Xbox PC app and Steam), and Xbox Series X/S on August 26. However, it won't be available on the Nintendo Switch 2, at least for now.
The game will retail for $40, but it will also be available on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass from day one. Players who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before the remaster announcement will receive a free upgrade. Additionally, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can enjoy the third-person shooter on Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The Coalition, an Xbox studio dedicated to the Gears of War franchise, collaborated with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief for the remaster. The game features all Gears of War DLC at no additional cost, including a bonus act for the campaign and all multiplayer elements. Players will unlock certain characters and cosmetic items through progression.
As always, you can play through the campaign with a friend online or in classic split-screen co-op. The game supports cross-play across all platforms and accommodates up to eight players in versus multiplayer mode. Signing in with a Microsoft account (not mandatory) allows for cross-progression, so you can continue your adventure on different devices, like a phone or tablet, via Xbox Cloud Gaming after playing on PS5.
Alongside various “platform-specific features,” Gears of War: Reloaded boasts support for 4K HDR visuals, 60 fps in the campaign, and 120 fps in multiplayer modes, along with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and other visual, audio, and performance enhancements. Microsoft promises a campaign experience with zero loading screens.
The Coalition is also working on another Gears of War project. During last June's Xbox Games Showcase, Gears of War: E-Day was announced. Outriders studio People Can Fly is co-developing the game, which currently has no confirmed release date.
