Reviving the Future: Tesla’s Bold Move to Relaunch the Dojo Supercomputer
In an exciting announcement, Elon Musk has revealed that Tesla plans to reignite its efforts on Dojo3, the latest iteration of its ambitious in-house supercomputer initiative. This means that after a temporary halt last year—which saw the disbandment of the original Dojo team to focus on developing chips for AI integration in Tesla vehicles—the project is back on track. Musk emphasized that with the AI5 chip design now robust, Tesla is ready to advance its cutting-edge technology once more.
The primary goal of the Dojo project is to analyze extensive video footage and other data gathered from Tesla vehicles. This will enhance the neural networks that underpin the company’s Full Self-Driving software. Last year, Musk had mentioned that concentrating resources on developing different AI chip designs didn’t make sense, given the capabilities of Tesla’s AI5 and AI6 chips for both inference and training.
The AI chips in question are specifically designed for seamless operation within Tesla vehicles. However, the new AI6 chips, which will soon be produced in Tesla’s Texas facility following a significant deal with Samsung, are set to improve the training processes essential for advancing Tesla’s autonomous capabilities.

In a recent tweet, he intrigued followers by alluding to the notion of “space-based AI compute” for the new Dojo.
