Global ride-hailing giant inDrive is shaking up the grocery market by acquiring Krave Mart, a fast-growing quick-commerce startup based in Pakistan. This strategic move marks inDrive’s bold step into e-commerce, specifically in grocery delivery, as it seeks to strengthen its presence in South Asia through innovative offerings.

The acquisition, finalized in an all-stock deal that secured the green light from the Competition Commission of Pakistan, reflects inDrive’s commitment to enhancing its service portfolio. While specific financial details remain under wraps, inDrive has confirmed the acquisition, hinting at ambitious plans for expansion.

Founded in 2021, Krave Mart has quickly emerged as a key player in the grocery delivery sector, boasting operations in major cities like Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. The startup cleverly employs a network of dark stores to ensure customers receive their groceries in about 30 minutes, catering to the growing demand for quick and convenient shopping experiences.

This acquisition comes as part of inDrive’s larger vision of evolving from a ride-hailing platform to a comprehensive super-app. Initially dipping its toes into grocery deliveries in Kazakhstan back in September 2025, inDrive expanded these offerings to Pakistan through a partnership with Krave Mart earlier this year. The company previously invested in Krave Mart in December 2024, positioning itself as a significant player in the competitive grocery market.

Andries Smit, inDrive’s Chief Growth Officer, expressed excitement over the approval from the Competition Commission, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing grocery delivery access across Pakistan. He mentioned that both the Krave Mart and inDrive brands will continue their operations in Karachi, with expansion efforts underway.

However, entering the grocery delivery sector won’t be without its challenges. The market is tough and heavily dominated by Foodpanda, a long-time player backed by Delivery Hero. For new entrants like inDrive, achieving substantial profitability in quick-commerce can require significant investment and time to scale operations effectively.

Despite these hurdles, inDrive’s trajectory continues to impress. Data from Sensor Tower reveals that since 2022, it has become the second-most downloaded ride-hailing app globally and ranks fourth among the most downloaded travel apps. With over 400 million downloads and services operating in over 1,000 cities across 48 markets, inDrive is certainly on a growth spree.

As inDrive ventures deeper into the world of grocery delivery, the company is poised to adapt and innovate, hoping to carve a niche for itself in this highly competitive industry.
