Exciting news ahead: Fans who associate Gary Jules’ cover of Mad World with Gears of War will be thrilled to learn that a remaster of the original 2006 game is set to launch on August 26. Not only will it provide modern enhancements like 4K resolution and up to 120 fps, but it will also include cross-play and cross-progression on all platforms, marking the first time the game will be available on the PlayStation 5.
Mike Crump, studio head at Gears of War developer The Coalition, announced that Gears of War: Reloaded will celebrate one of gaming’s most iconic franchises.
“As we near the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we are reflecting on what this franchise represents. It’s about the stories we’ve shared, the friendships we’ve formed, and the unforgettable experiences we’ve created together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re inviting more players than ever to join us,” Crump stated.
Gears of War: Reloaded encompasses all content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. This means access to all post-launch DLC, including the bonus campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, along with a full set of characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression.
The remaster promises stunning visuals with 4K resolutions, 60 fps for the campaign, and 120 fps for multiplayer, HDR support, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, VRR, enhanced graphics like improved anti-aliasing, and no loading screens during the campaign.
The Campaign features two-player co-op, and Versus Multiplayer accommodates up to 8 players, with cross-play available across all platforms. This announcement highlights a significant milestone: Gears of War, one of Xbox’s most renowned games, is making its debut on PlayStation.
